BIO
My name is Ngozi Mokwunye, and my dance training began in 2012 at my hometown studio in Kernersville, NC. For ten years, I trained as a competitive dancer in various styles, including but not limited to, jazz, ballet, hip-hop, lyrical, contemporary, and modern dance, and participated in summer training programs. In 2022, I graduated from high school and began my studies at NYU Tisch School of the Arts as a dance major in the fall. Now, I have completed my studies and received my BFA in dance in May 2025. In August 2025, I began my professional career with RedClay Dance Company as a touring artist. In addition to performing, I am also interested in teaching and choreographing dance, as well as pursuing a career in performing arts administration. I strive for excellence and equity within the dance community, thriving both as an individual artist and as part of a collective. I am passionate about dance as an art form, and I am eager to share my creativity with the world.

ARTIST STATEMENT AND TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Artist Statement: As humans, we can articulate our life experiences and the emotions they evoke. My mission as an artist is to create works that enable dancers to express these experiences through movement, allowing the audience to forge a connection. This principle also guides me as a performer. My most recent work, *Ebb and Flow*, is a solo performance that explores the cycle of grief and the sensations associated with mourning through choreography. I aim to dismantle the barrier between the audience and the dancer, as both share a fundamental trait: they are complex human beings.
Teaching Philosophy: As a teacher, I prioritize fostering an inclusive environment that acknowledges the diversity within the classroom. I believe in recognizing each student for who they are, creating a space free from judgment based on appearance, dance background, culture, stereotypes, or prejudice. I am committed to ensuring that no one is overlooked and that everyone is treated with kindness and respect. It is essential that all students feel seen and appreciated. I strive to cultivate a classroom where students leave feeling they have learned something new about themselves, me, and one another. I value a culture of continuous collaboration and discovery. I will consider my role successful when students understand their purpose as artists and are eager to learn and grow. Our bodies are our vessels and temples, deserving of appreciation and care for ourselves and each other, enabling our ongoing growth that is never-ending..
